UTStarcom's Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network
(GEPON) platform delivers high-speed voice, data
and video services to residential and business subscribers.
The platform, comprising an Optical Line Terminal
(OLT) and an Optical Network Unit (ONU), represents
a high-speed, Fiber To The Home/Building (FTTH/FTTB)
alternative to copper. The GEPON platform is an extremely
cost-effective alternative to conventional access
equipment, reducing points of failure and simplifying
network architecture.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
BBS 1000 (OLT) / ONU 101 (ONU)
UTStarcom's BBS 1000 Optical Line Terminal (OLT)
provides a direct optical interface to the Ethernet/IP
network core. It completes the end-to-end optical
last mile with up to 1 Gbps of bandwidth to residential
and business customers. Combining the economic
benefits of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON)
with built-in L2/L3 switching and routing functionalities,
the BBS 1000 is an optimal access platform for
bandwidth-intensive, high margin applications including
IPTV, VOD, HDTV and Internet gaming.
The BBS 1000 platform is deployed in conjunction
with UTStarcom's Optical Network Unit 101 (ONU 101),
a remotely manageable CPE device used to terminate
the optical fiber on the network side and providing
ubiquitous fast Ethernet to the subscriber or destination
network.
